To listen to Stella Explorer is to take a trip through the valleys and cliffs of her musical landscape. Atmospheric, ambient pop and dark grooves have equal footing in a musical style that’s more than the sum of its melodic parts. It’s a musical range that she admits was unchartered territory until she left her band two years ago to lift the lid on her own musicality. Out poured “different things from different parts of me...the heritage that I haven’t really explored.” That’s a Swedish - South African heritage complete with a grandfather and both parents who are all musicians in their own right. She credits them for supplying her childhood with instruments and influences while listening to ‘70s prog rock, punk and Prince.
